MB&D’s Rehearsal Director & Choreographic Assistant is teaching weekly at Gibney Dance Center (located at 280 Broadway).
Description: This class has been shaped by my own training in a variety of techniques and styles, but it ultimately will be your time to explore. As a teacher, I look to pull from classical and modern dance equally, and am currently intrigued by stylistic and functional uses of weight, intention, subtlety, and energetic volume. Class will begin with body work and improvisation as ways to ease into movement. In this time you will find, exercise, and challenge your own artistic voice within the provided tasks. The physicality of this warm up will grow into rich and power-hungry movement driven by an appreciation for rhythmic undertones. And finally, culminating phrase-work is meant to push each dancer to their own extremes. We will consider the different ways to find range with specific attention to accomplishing the technical movements, paying mind to syncopation and qualitative choice-making, and choosing articulate body initiations.
